Doug grew up in suburban rural South Africa and graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, from the University of Pretoria in 2000. Before joining the team at Dargaville Veterinary Centre in November 2016, Doug had worked in South Africa, England and New Zealand (Christchurch and Wellington), gaining a wide range of experience in small animal medicine, emergency medicine, surgery (soft tissue, orthopaedic and joint), diagnostic imaging and ophthalmology. Before becoming a vet, Doug worked in reception at a local vet clinic on weekends from the age of 15 until he graduated.
His love of animals began at an early age in part due to family pets but also because of the array of wildlife that he was exposed to while growing up in SA. Doug lives with his kiwi wife Carolyn and their 3 rescued kitties on a lifestyle block in Ruatangata. Outside of work, he enjoys playing sport (hockey, tennis, cricket, squash and golf to name a few) but also has a passion for photography, tramping and diving.
