Working Dogs

We at Dargaville Veterinary Centre realise that not all dogs are created equal and that there is a marked difference between ‘stay at home Fluffy’ and’ out there doin’ it Rex’. Working dogs, be they herding sheep in a paddock, chasing cattle on a hill or sniffing out pests in the forest, are in so many ways different to their more residential counterparts.

We understand that they are kept differently, that they eat differently and that they often suffer diseases and injuries unique to their type. They thus have a unique risk profile that the team at Dargaville Veterinary Centre prides itself on being highly familiar with.

We keep ourselves up to date with the latest clinical literature pertinent to New Zealand’s working dogs and have the tools, skills and experience to get your working dog back to health as quickly as soon as possible and back to work, whatever brings it in to see us.

We are particularly good at diagnosing and treating working dog orthopaedic diseases, breeding disorders and developing health plans that ensure that they remain in tip top shape to do the best work possible.

So, whatever threatens the working ability, breeding or welfare of your working dog, get in touch with us here at Dargaville Veterinary Centre. We love working dogs and have a team of dedicated small animal vets and nurses competent in getting Rex and his hard working counterparts back on their feet and back out there!
