We are committed to helping the next generation of budding young farmers and the annual Northern Wairoa Central Day is one of the highlights of our calendar. Held at the Dargaville Rugby Club in October, it brings together children from schools in the Northern Wairoa area with their pet calves, goats or sheep, (they have already competed at their own schools pet day) for a day of fun showcasing the hard work and dedication the children have put into their animals. Trophies are awarded to a number of animals and handlers, with the Grand Champion Calf, Goat and Lamb, the coveted prize all kids have their eye on taking home.
In association with PGG Wrightsons, and a handful of dedicated individuals / volunteers, Dargaville Vets helps with sponsorship and often supplies a steward on the day.
We offer free vaccination and castrating for young pet lambs and goats in the clinic. We encourage the children to accompany their pet, so that they can ask questions and take photos (this usually forms part of the pet project).
